A subscription package from Sky gives you access to a vast range of quality programming. Sky is now a major force in British television programming, with an unparalled selection of Sports, Movies, and general entertainment channels.
A standard Sky subscription costs between £16.00 and £45.00 a month. You can make your selection from different groups of channels with a common theme. For example, there is a 'Kid's Mix', a 'Music Mix' and a 'News & Events Mix'. The 'Knowledge Mix' shows mainly historical and natural history documentaries, and is a popular choice. 'Variety Mix' includes Sky's flagship 'Sky One' along with channels dedicated to comedy and drama. The 'Style and Culture Mix' features channels devoted to fashion, home & gardens and travel.
The channels above form the 'Entertainment pack' and you must choose at least one 'mix' of channels. You can also add the Movies and Sports package to these mixes if you want to. Movies includes approximately 16 film channels (some film channels such as Film Four and TCM are available without subscribing to the Movies package). Sky now dominates UK Sports coverage and there are 4 channels devoted entirely to mainstream and extreme sports, with more channels planned for the future.
If you have a Sky Plus digibox, you can order a Sky Plus subscription card (or upgrade an existing standard card to Sky Plus). A Sky Plus subscription card gives you all the features of a normal Sky card, but has the added recording features that allow a Sky Plus digibox to function correctly.
A Sky Plus subscription now costs exactly the same as a standard Sky package, between £17.00 and £47.00 a month, depending on the package chosen.
Alternatively, with a Sky High Definition Digibox, Sky's new High Definition subscription card will give you access to the extra HD channels consistent with your package. The additional channels are as follows:
-
Sky One HD (Variety package)
-
Artsworld HD (Style & Culture)
-
The History Channel HD (Knowledge)
-
Discovery HD (Knowledge)
-
Sky Sports 1 & 2 HD (Sports)
-
Sky Movies 9 & 10 HD (Movies).
-
BBC HD (available without subscription)
Sky's High Definition Digibox is also a Sky Plus Digibox and the subscription card also controls the recording functions as well as the HD channels.
A High Definition subscription only costs an additional £10.00 over and above the standard subscription.
Alternatively, if you already have the right equipment installed you can order a Sky subscription card directly from Sky or through ourselves via an authorised Sky agent. Although we supply satellite equipment for use abroad, you must abide by the terms and conditions of your Sky contract, which requires that the card is only used at the address to which it was ordered.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If I have a Sky package, will I be able to receive the other main channels - BBC, ITV and the free-to-view channels - Channels 4 & 5?
Yes, you will always receive the free-to-view channels with any type of Sky card. BBC and ITV, along with a lot of other channels, are 'free-to-air' which means they are not scrambled and therefore you do not necessarily need a card to watch them.
Do you need a telephone line connected for the card to work properly?
No, this is not essential, but depends on the terms of your contract. Generally speaking, if you buy unsubsidised equipment from an independent retailer such as ourselves, then a telephone line connection is not essential. If in any doubt, please contact us.
I want to buy a Sky Plus digibox - can I use my existing card in the new digibox?
Yes, but you will need to get your card upgraded to a 'Sky Plus' card for the recording features to work. You do not need a new card - Sky can update it 'over the air'. Sky have scrapped the additional £10.00 a month for the Sky Plus facilities that they used to charge, so you can upgrade to Sky Plus for no extra cost.
