These LNBs are commonly retro-fitted to a minidish in order to provide up to eight independent outputs. This allows connection of up to four PVR (twin tuner) devices - such as Sky Plus or the Freesat Plus receivers - or up to eight standard receivers (or a mixture of both). When connecting multiple receivers to a satellite dish, the cable cannot simply be split - a twin, quad or octo LNB must be used. Note - any unused outputs can either be blanked off or left unused.
 
Identify the correct type of LNB for your dish
 
Type 1: The dish that accepts a type 1 LNB will have a projecting arm that measures approximately 25mm x 12mm on the outer cross-section of the dish arm. Unfortunately the LNB that fits this type of dish is no longer made. If you have this type of dish arm, you must buy a new dish, and select the type 3 LNB to suit it.

Type 2: The majority of dishes accept a type 2 LNB. These dishes have a dish arm that measures approximately 30mm x 20mm across the outer cross-section of the arm.
 
Type 3: A third dish type has recently been introduced. If you are fitting an LNB to a minidish supplied in 2009, you need to check whether you need a type 2 or type 3 LNB. The dish that accepts a type 3 LNB can easily be identified by shape of the dish arm - rather than a closed box section, the dish arm is a 'U' shape (measuring approximately 27mm x 20mm).

  • Manufacturer - There are a variety of different manufacturers for the octo LNB, including Microelectronics Technology Inc (MTI) or WNC (Wistron NeWeb Corporation), Thomson and Zinwell.
  • Low Band range: 10.7 - 11.7 GHz
  • Input High Band range: 11.7 - 12.75 GHz
  • Fitting: spigot type fitting for Zone 1 or 2 Sky digital elliptical dish.
  • Band switching: Low - 0 KHz, High 22 kHz
  • Typical noise figure 0.6dB
  • Ideal for both standard definition and high definition TV. If you see it claimed that you need a special 'HD' LNB for HD quality pictures, this is false.

These LNBs can be used successfully throughout the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Ireland. They can only be used with the elliptical Zone 1 and Zone 2 Sky dishes. They are not intended to be used with a dish that takes a standard 40mm fitting, generally used outside the UK.
