Freesat - Humax HDR
 The Humax FOXSAT HDR fresat satellite twin tuner personal video recorder (PVR) is a new product supporting the BBC and ITV backed 'Freesat' service. Freesat aims to deliver extra channel choice and High Definition (HD) programming - all with no expensive monthly subscription fee.
 
The Humax FOXSAT HDR has decoding for all existing Freesat channels (perfect for the digital switchover). It also has the ability to decode channels transmitted in High Definition and output them via its HDMI connection. With dedicated HD channels already broadcasting from the BBC and ITV (with more set to join), there's no better time to 'go HD'. Freesat can also boast perfect reception across the whole of the UK and can be added to an existing minidish setup by using a quad LNB.
 
Attractively styled in black with a blue fascia and LED front panel display, the Foxsat HDR includes a huge 500GB hard drive and twin Freesat tuners, to allow easy recording of all your favourite standard or High Definition channels. The high capacity hard drive gives you the ability to record up to 80 hours of High Definition programming and 200 hours of standard definition programming.  With the Humax Foxsat HDR you can watch one channel and simultaneously record another channel, or even record two channels at once! With the easy to use, full colour on-screen programme guide, favourite channel lists, HDMI connection (with upscaling for standard programming to 1080i or 720p) and a scart output, the Foxsat HDR will change the way you watch TV.
 
The Humax Foxsat-HDR supports Freesat+ provided by the Freesat service.
 
Freesat+ is explained below:
  • Accurate recording - the recorder will track the start and end times of scheduled recordings, meaning the recording will start and stop at the times sent by the broadcasters. If a programme starts early or ends late, the record time will automatically be adjusted.
  • Series recording - if the programme you record is in a series, you can automatically record the whole series.
  • Schedule tracking - if the programme changes to a different time/day, the changes will be detected and the programme will still record.
  • Alternate Instances - if a scheduled recording overlaps with other scheduled recordings, you will be given the option to record one of the programmes if it is repeated.
  • Split recordings - if a programme has two parts split by another programme (eg a film divided in two parts by the News), both parts will record.
Freesat+ is ideal for use outside the UK:
  • Use it to compensate for time differences between UK and local times.
  • Use the large hard drive storage and the 'series link' to record your favourite programmes over a series of weeks or months if you are away for long periods.

What else do I need?
 
A quad output (4 way) LNB:
Freesat+ receivers have two tuners and therefore require two input cables to be run from the dish. For most standard installations, where a single output LNB is fitted, this means changing the LNB on your dish to a quad LNB with 4 outputs. This is not a particularly difficult job to do yourself, providing you can get safe access to your dish.
