This kit provides all the equipment and cable required to connect additional Sky or Freesat receivers to your Sky minidish. No special tools are required.
 
It includes the following items:
 
1 - Quad output LNB to suit the standard Sky minidish
 
1 - 30m roll of black or white satellite cable. This can be standard single-core cable, or twin-core 'shotgun' type cable suitable for wiring twin-tuner PVRs, such as Sky Plus or Freesat Plus.
 
1 - pack of 100 cable clips to suit
 
8 - F connectors
 
4 - strips of self amalgamating tape, to waterproof the LNB connections
 
3 - cable ties
 
Instructions on replacing an LNB and fitting the F connectors are included.
 
The quad LNBs are commonly retro-fitted to a minidish in order to provide up to four independent outputs. This allows connection of up to two PVR receivers - such as Sky Plus or the Freesat Plus - or up to four standard receivers (or a mixture of both). When connecting multiple receivers (or a PVR type receiver) to a satellite dish, the cable cannot simply be split - a twin, quad or octo LNB must be used. Since a twin output LNB for the standard Sky minidish is no longer available, a quad LNB must be used if up to 4 dish outputs are required (unused outputs can be left unused or blanked off). 
 
Despite the claims of many retailers that there is a 'one size fits all' type of quad LNB for a standard Sky minidish, there have actually been three subtle changes in the design of the minidish over the course of several years. Although the LNB itself is the same, the specification of the arm attachment to the dish varies, resulting in three distinct types of LNB, each suitable for a particular design of dish. The earliest of these designs is no longer available but we do stock both of the more recent and most widely used types.
We refer to these different fitting types as follows:
  
Type 1: Narrow arm fitting - not available - new dish and LNB required
Type 2: Standard arm fitting
Type 3: New style fitting (2009) 
 
Identify the correct type of LNB for your dish
 
Type 1: These LNBs fit a dish arm that measures 25mm wide x 12mm high. These are no longer available, and to upgrade to a quad LNB you will need to purchase a new dish.
 
Type 2: The majority of dishes accept a type 2 LNB. These dishes have a dish arm that measures approximately 30mm x 20mm across the outer cross-section of the arm.

Type 3: A third dish type has recently been introduced. If you are fitting an LNB to a minidish supplied in 2009, you need to check whether you need a type 2 or type 3 LNB. The dish that accepts a type 3 LNB can easily be identified by shape of the dish arm - rather than a closed box section, the dish arm is a 'U' shape (measuring approximately 27mm x 20mm).

  • Manufacturer - There are a variety of different manufacturers for the quad LNB, including Microelectronics Technology Inc (MTI) or WNC (Wistron NeWeb Corporation), Thomson and Zinwell.
  • Low Band range: 10.7 - 11.7 GHz
  • Input High Band range: 11.7 - 12.75 GHz
  • Fitting: spigot type fitting for Zone 1 or 2 Sky digital elliptical dish.
  • Band switching: Low - 0 KHz, High 22 kHz
  • Typical noise figure 0.6dB
  • Ideal for both standard definition and high definition TV. If you see it claimed that you need a special 'HD' LNB for HD quality pictures, this is false!

These LNBs can be used successfully throughout the UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Ireland. They can only be used with the elliptical Zone 1 and Zone 2 Sky dishes. They are not intended to be used with a dish that takes a standard 40mm fitting, generally used outside the UK.
